Michigan VINE is a free, confidential custody and court-event service available online, by app, and by telephone. Michigan says county jails and the Michigan Department of Corrections contribute information. Material from Ogemaw County Sheriff Brian D. Gilbert's office directs the public to VINELink. It is useful for Ogemaw County Correctional Facility and state custody events.
VINE does not replace the jail release form, court order, or MDOC discharge record. A result reflects what the contributing agency sent. Release, transfer, escape, and death are distinct. Federal BOP and ICE matters require separate official channels.

Register for Ogemaw Release Alerts
Register while the person is searchable when possible. Notices can go to telephone, text, app, email, or TTY.

- For telephone alerts, create a four-digit PIN.
- When called, enter the PIN followed by the number sign.
- Update contact details when they change.
The PIN confirms receipt, not identity. Current Michigan guidance says calls may continue until PIN entry or for up to 24 hours. Text and email do not use the phone PIN. Registration is confidential.
Verify Ogemaw VINE Events
No source promises real-time Ogemaw reporting or a fixed post-release search period. A missing result does not prove no event occurred. Call the VINE operator, then the jail, and seek the underlying record.
For county release, the jail form controls. For an MDOC prisoner, OTIS can show Parolee, Discharged, Date Paroled, or Discharge Date. OTIS excludes jail-only sentences. BOP and ICE searches remain separate.

Ogemaw Jail and MDOC Results
A county-jail event and an MDOC event can concern the same person at different stages. For someone released directly from Ogemaw County Correctional Facility, the local inmate release form is the primary record. MI-VINE can provide the contributed event. A court order can explain the legal basis, but it does not prove the exact time that the person cleared all holds.
If Ogemaw transferred the person to MDOC after sentencing, the VINE movement should not be described as community release. After state intake, OTIS is the correct public locator. It should show Prisoner and an Assigned Location. If that person later leaves prison on parole, Date Paroled and current Parolee status become relevant. Earliest Release Date is only an eligibility date and cannot substitute for physical departure.
A fully discharged person can appear in OTIS with Discharged status, Discharge Date, and Discharge Reason. Michigan generally keeps that public data for three years after the latest supervision discharge. For an older discharge, use the sentencing court and a focused MDOC records request.
Missing Ogemaw VINE Results
Several facts can explain a no-result. The name may be spelled differently, the identifying number may be wrong, the event may not yet have reached VINE, or the public display period may have ended. The person may also belong in a different custody system. Michigan does not publish a guaranteed Ogemaw lag or a fixed number of days that a released result remains searchable.
Call the MI-VINE service at 1-800-770-7657 when the web search fails. TTY service is available at 1-866-847-1298, and operators are available around the clock. Then contact the Ogemaw County Correctional Facility at 989-345-5908 for a recent local status. Ask whether the event was direct release or transfer and request instructions for obtaining the existing release record.
If a durable record is needed, file the county FOIA request for the booking card, custody movements, release date and time, release authority, and inmate release form. The request should seek existing records rather than ask staff to write an explanation.
Ogemaw Court Event Cross-Check
MiCOURT can show an Ogemaw case number, court, party, charges, event history, status, disposition, and sentence-related events within public-access limits. The 82nd District Court handles arraignment, bond, misdemeanors, early felony stages, and district-court probation. The 34th Circuit Court and County Clerk handle circuit felony records.
A signed bond order, dismissal, or judgment can explain why release was authorized. It still cannot establish the exact jail-door time or show that every hold cleared. Pair the court document with the Ogemaw release form. For an informational web display that matters, obtain the signed order from the clerk rather than relying on a status label alone.
VINE and the court thus answer different questions. VINE reports a contributed custody or court event and supports alerts. The court record supplies legal authority. The jail record establishes the physical custody movement.
Federal Limits on Ogemaw VINE
MI-VINE is not the authoritative federal history source. A person held for USMS may leave Ogemaw custody through transfer even though no public USMS name-search tool exists. Use the federal docket for the detention, bond, acquittal, dismissal, commitment, or release order. If the person is designated to federal prison, the BOP locator becomes the public route.
BOP results can show a release date and location. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” confirms departure from BOP, but another authority may still hold the person and federal supervision may continue. An immigration transfer belongs in ICE ODLS, which covers current detention and people released during the prior 60 days. Neither federal route should be replaced with an Ogemaw VINE result.
Respond to Ogemaw VINE Alerts
Read the whole message before acting. Confirm the person's identifiers, the contributing agency, and whether the event says release or transfer. A notification should not be shortened into a different event type. If exact timing matters for reconnecting with someone or a court process, call the contributing agency.
Keep contact information current. If a telephone PIN is forgotten, call the service, press zero, and ask an operator to reset or cancel it. Michigan's current brochure controls the retry period: calls may continue until the PIN is entered or for up to 24 hours. Older guidance referred to a longer period, but it should not be used.
Never plan a pickup around an alert alone. Ogemaw publishes no fixed release hour, exit door, or family pickup procedure. The facility's continuous staffing does not promise a particular release time or round-the-clock public records access.
Ogemaw Custody Status Meanings
Release means the contributing agency reported that the person left its custody. Transfer means another authority received or was expected to receive the person. Escape and death are custody-ending events of different kinds and must never be described as ordinary community release.
Parole is release from prison while MDOC supervision continues. Discharge means MDOC jurisdiction over the sentence ended. An absconder is a person reported as failing to comply with supervision, not a discharged person and not necessarily someone now in jail. These terms help interpret a VINE alert beside an OTIS profile.
When systems appear to differ, check timestamps and agencies. A VINE transfer from Ogemaw can precede MDOC intake. A later OTIS status may describe the next stage rather than contradict the county event.
Preserve Ogemaw Release Proof
A notification is useful for timely awareness, but a source document is better for a lasting court or records need. Check the Ogemaw Corrections page, confirm the agency through the Sheriff page, and submit the county FOIA form. Ask for the inmate release form, date and time, release authority, and custody-movement entries. Request electronic nonexempt portions and identify the booking closely.
Michigan GS-11 keeps the inmate jacket through release plus ten years. That period is separate from VINELink visibility. It supports a later request when the VINE result no longer appears, subject to exemptions and redaction. The release form remains the key local proof even when the alert arrived first. Keep a copy with the matching court order.
The county generally gives an initial FOIA response within five business days and may take one extension of no more than ten business days. That schedule is not a promise of final production. Ask for electronic records, since the county may itemize labor, media, copying, and mailing charges. If a request is partly denied, the response should identify the exemption and appeal route.
For older MDOC events, request a releasable discharge order, certificate, or time-computation record tied to the MDOC number. Do not request a PENPACK as though it were a general public product. MDOC restricts that compiled file to recognized authorities for official business.
Keep the VINE message with the later source record when they concern the same event. Note the agency name, event wording, and time received. That small record can help explain why an alert and official document bear different timestamps without assuming either one is false.
